Joe Rogan’s podcast moving exclusively to Spotify on multi-year $100 million deal — and it’s the platform’s latest addition to the podcast empire it’s building to compete with Apple and Google

The Joe Rogan Experience, which is downloaded nearly 200 million times per month and makes $30 million annually, will only be uploaded to Spotify starting in September. Rogan’s YouTube channel will no longer host full episodes.

It’s a victory for Spotify, which is aggressively building out a podcast empire to compete with the likes of Apple and Google. The deal is reportedly worth over $100 million.

A Chinese travel presenter has apologised to the public after a video of her eating a bat in 2016 went viral amid the coronavirus outbreak.

Wang Mengyun, who has gathered a massive following through her online travel show, is seen in the programme ripping apart the animal with her hands before eating it.

The three-year-old clip became widely shared on social media after the health crisis broke out in China, sparking an uproar from web users.

In a post last week, the globetrotter begged the public for forgiveness, calling herself ‘ignorant’. She wrote: ‘I am sorry, everyone. I should not have eaten a bat.’

Lyor Cohen, global head of music at YouTube, called the changes a “very important moment in making the chart a more accurate representation of what people are listening to.”

He added, “Genres like Latin, hip-hop and electronic, which consistently dominate the YouTube charts, will now be properly recognized for their popularity. This is another great step in bringing YouTube and the industry together and we’re so grateful to Billboard and the music business at large for making this addition.”

The Billboard 200 chart ranks the most popular albums of the week based on multi-metric consumption, which includes traditional album sales, track sales equivalent albums (TEA) and streaming equivalent albums (SEA).
