M&M’s Launches Woke Female-Only Special Edition Bag Of Candy Featuring ‘Lesbian’ Green And Brown Chocolates, As Well As New Plus Size Purple Sweet Who Represents Body Positivity

M&M’s is launching woke ‘all-female’ packs to celebrate female empowerment and attempt to shake things up in a continued shift toward progressive branding.

Mars, M&M’s parent company, debuted the feminist candy wrappers earlier this week, exclusively featuring the company’s three female mascots: green, brown and the newly-introduced purple.

The all-female package – upside down, to show how powerful women have ‘flipped the status quo’ – will be the first time the brown and green M&Ms have been featured together since a viral tweet from 2015 sparked rumors they were a lesbian couple.

The tweet contained a picture of the two characters holding hands on the beach, posted just two days after the Supreme Court effectively legalized gay marriage.

In fact, a search for the two characters in the notorious fan fiction site Archive Of Our Own produces 11 different results. The green M&M supposedly posted the tweet herself, writing: ‘It’s rare Ms. Brown and I get to spend time together without some colorful characters barging in.’

Mars has shifted the M&M’s brand in recent years multiple times in attempts to appear more progressive, with new CEO Poul Weihrauch looking to continue the trend.

They debuted ‘Purple’ – the first ever female peanut M&M spokescandy, who has been designed to represent acceptance and inclusivity and is ‘quirky, confident and authentic’.

More than 10 million fans voted to add the color to the confectionary’s current rainbow in May, beating aqua and pink.

Purple’s arrival was announced with ‘I’m Just Gonna Be Me,’ a new promotional song and music video, which launched on Tuesday.

Jane Hwang, global VP at Mars Wrigley said: ‘There is so much about our new spokescandy that people can relate to and appreciate, including her willingness to embrace her true self – our new character reminds us to celebrate what makes us unique.’

Purple joins the legendary cast of M&M’s characters, who were given a refresh with updated looks and more nuanced personalities back in January.

The iconic M&M characters – ubiquitous in commercials for the chocolate candies for decades – are getting a makeover that the company claimed will fit them in a ‘more dynamic, progressive world.’

The changes, which took effect immediately, gives the characters a more modern look to emphasize characters’ ‘personalities.’

The biggest changes appear to be to the two female M&M’s, the green and brown ones.

Mars, the maker of the candies, has been criticized in the past for making the green M&M too sexy, and either pushing a rivalry or a possible flirtation with the brown M&M.

The solution appears to be the green M&M losing her stiletto boots in favor of sneakers and the brown M&M wearing slightly lower heels than before to what Mars spokespersons called a ‘professional height.’

Mars wants the green M&M to be ‘better represented to reflect confidence and empowerment, as a strong female, and known for much more than her boots.’

As far as the relationship between the green and brown M&M’s, it will be based on the two ‘together throwing shine and not shade,’ as a reaction to how the two have been at odds at times in promotional material.

Each M&M has been given a Q&A to explain their new characters on the candy’s website, in which the brown M&M claims to be ‘not bossy, just the boss.’

Mars is also doubling down on the anxious orange M&M, whom the company believes is ‘one of the most relatable characters with Gen-Z, the most anxious generation.’

The orange M&M previously wore his shoes untied, but now will have them tied in an effort to represent his cautious nature, according to Mars.

The red M&M – voiced by cartoon icon Billy West in commercials and often vacillating between leader and bully toward the other M&M’s – will be adjusted to be more kind to his fellow characters.

The yellow M&M, classically dim-witted, appears to remain so. He once was quoted saying that the first thing he would do if today was his last day ever is ‘wake up.’

Mars hopes these changes will show the importance of ‘self-expression and power of community.’

The Body Shop Retires From ‘Anti-Aging’ To Celebrate Beauty In All Stages

The Body Shop’s Drops of Youth range is one of its best-selling skincare selections, with its serum being its hottest item across the board (it’s said a bottle is sold every 23 seconds). While those are marks of a good product, the name is telling of the way beauty is being perceived by consumers, and the industry’s role in propagating such ideals.

As such, the British beauty brand is reversing the harsh effects of its message about aging and rebranding Drops of Youth to Edelweiss. Changes are being made beyond skin-deep as the range will get a new formulation too, along with more products to the line to serve a greater depth of skin concerns.

The Body Shop was moved to rethink its most-loved products following a Global Self Love Index it commissioned in 2021, as part of a self-love campaign. That concluded with the dire, overwhelming response by people around the world who believed the beauty industry largely influenced poor self-esteem with its unrealistic claims and imagery. The majority seemed to have this perception, The Drum reports.

The pessimistic results forced The Body Shop to look into how it might have also been responsible for pushing some of those unachievable expectations onto customers, be it through its language or products. As a company rooted in activism, it recalibrated to see how it could empower shoppers instead.

The new and improved Edelweiss range has double the Edelweiss extract of the original. This natural component is said to have 43% more antioxidant qualities than Retinol, making the collection especially effective at strengthening the skin’s barrier while boosting the ability to heal itself. The flower, after all, has been able to withstand severe winds, snow, and rain in the Alpines.

The Edelweiss flower has been used in folk medicine throughout the years. In today’s metropolises, it holds out against harsh blue light and pollution. 

Instead of prolonging youth, the range’s true strength, evidenced by its marketing too, is resilience—both inward and outward.

Expanding from the original lineup of the Concentrate, Liquid Peel, Serum Concentrate Sheet Mask, and Eye Serum Concentrate, there are also two new products—Edelweiss Cleansing Concentrate and Edelweiss Intense Smoothing Cream—to meet various skincare needs.

The Body Shop is also doubling down on its B-corp certification and love of nature by reformulating the range such that it comes from 90% natural origins and is vegan-certified.

The One Food You Should Never Order On A Flight, According To Experts

Feeling peckish on a flight? Go ahead, order a snack. Just make sure it’s not pasta.

Airline food catches a lot of flack for being a bit bland. However, it’s important to note that it’s more about the human body’s reaction to being 30,000 feet in the air than the actual food itself. A study conducted by Germany’s Fraunhofer Institute for Building Physics found the combination of dryness and low pressure on planes reduces the sensitivity of human taste buds for both sweet and salty by 30%.

Furthermore, as Fritz Gross, director of culinary excellence at LSG Sky Chefs Asia Pacific, told CNN in 2012, airlines aren’t as interested in taste as they are focused on food safety.

“Our top concern is actually food safety,” Gross said. “Because we do such a large volume, we cannot afford to have things in there that are not right. You can imagine how easily an airline can get sued.”

Why then is pasta off the menu? Because beyond food safety, Gross noted, some foods simply cannot handle the cooking process at altitude. Pasta, like all dishes in the air, is typically reheated before serving, meaning it’ll likely be well overcooked by the time it gets to you. If you’re expecting it al dente, you won’t be happy. Furthermore, if the ratio of sauce to pasta is off, it will likely lead to a sloppy mess that will be far from tasty.

Additionally, as Travel + Leisure previously explained, Dr. Charles Platkin, executive director of the Hunter College NYC Food Policy Center, reviewed and rated the foods available on 11 U.S. and Canadian airlines and noted that pasta or other carb-heavy meals may not be the best bet on flights for those either looking to find something healthy, or those hoping to arrive at their destination feeling alert.

“Eating lots of heavy carbs such as pasta with thick, dense sauces, breads, muffins or cakes will leave you feeling lethargic, cranky, and not full or satisfied,” he said. “Your blood sugar levels will spike and then fall, which will negatively impact how you feel.”

What then can a flier eat instead? The best bet may be to forgo airline food altogether and pack your own. Packing snacks like popcorn, protein bars, and whole fruits is easy, and even foods that are considered “liquid” like peanut butter and hummus come in TSA-friendly sizes, making it easier than ever to pack a few things, eat healthy, and avoid airline prices along the way.

Woman Reveals What Three Weeks Without Alcohol Does To Your Body

A woman has shared her incredible three-week transformation after completely cutting out alcohol.

Danielle Pierce, from Austin, Texas, started “experimenting” with alcohol aged 16, and by 18 she’d fallen into the typical party culture at college.

The 24-year-old said she’d drink around two bottles of wine during the week, before downing shots and cocktails on the weekend.

She told Newsweek she’d spend around $114 a week on booze, adding her favorite tipple is pinot grigio. But on May 18 she decided to go sober, after admitting drinking had left her feeling “lethargic” and “grumpy.”

She said: “I decided to cut out alcohol after having gut/stomach issues. I was starting an elimination diet to figure out what foods I was intolerant too, and I figured I might as well cut out alcohol too. My parent’s have been sober since January and they were a huge inspiration and source of encouragement.”

“I stopped cold turkey—I knew I needed a reset and the only way I could do that was remove it completely. I wasn’t feeling like myself. I was lethargic, uninspired and honestly grumpy, and I wasn’t able to fit into my clothes and I was not happy about that. So I started the elimination diet and cut out alcohol as well to jump start my health journey.”

Initially she planned to quit for 21 days, but has kept it going after seeing the positive impact it’s had on her life.

She’s managed to lose an incredible 15 pounds (lbs), which she said was was “unexpected,” adding her sleep and skin have never looked better.

“I cannot tell you how proud I was when I hit that 21-day mark. I was really surprised that I wasn’t jumping at the bit to get a glass of wine, by that 21st day, I had no interest in drinking at all. I never want to feel another hangover again after feeling so good,” she raved.

Listing the benefits she’s noticed, Pierce continued: “I am so happy with my new lifestyle—like the happiest I have ever been. I wish I would’ve really taken a look in the mirror sooner and realized that I was not excelling in my personal or professional life due to drinking culture.

“It’s a completely personal choice, but I don’t feel like I was myself when I was staying out till 4am drinking and then being a hungover mess the next day. So many things have changed—I think the biggest thing I noticed is my social anxiety decreased and my overall happiness has increased. When I drank I would get so anxious around people and would be a recluse, not talk to anyone at all. So overall, my mental health has improved immensely.”

“My stomach issues are gone. I would get so nauseous when I ate at any time, and after some research I found that when you drink alcohol regularly you aren’t able to digest your food all the way and it creates gas in your stomach due to the alcohol sugar.”

“My skin is the best it’s ever been, and I have been on acne medications for years with no luck. My skin is bright, tight and glowing and I think that has to do with me not being dehydrated all the time.”

“My sleep patterns have improved but it took some time. When I first cut out alcohol I couldn’t fall asleep, which I guess means my body was depending on those nightly glasses of wine to go to bed. Once my body regulated to my new diet, my sleep consistency and overall depth improved and I wake up refreshed every morning.”

Initially the first weekend after she quit was tough, as most of her peers were drinking, but Pierce said she ordered mocktails to fit in.

“It was really weird that first weekend out. Obviously, when people are drinking, they honestly want you to drink with them too—and not like in a bad way, but like in a cultural expectation way. I found that ordering mocktails makes me feel much more included when I go out and it also stops the weird stares from strangers who are wondering why I keep ordering waters one after another,” she added.

The change has also seen her save money, as she estimated s”I plan to continue my sobriety journey in the way that best suits me. What I mean by that is, I only drink on ‘planned drinking days’ which occur around celebrations or holidays etc. I will say I will never ‘binge’ drink again. I have lost all interest in getting so drunk I don’t remember the night before.”

Canon Issues Statement Regarding Overheating Concerns With New EOS R5 and R6 Cameras When Video Recording

In the statement, Canon said that the R5’s combination of high resolution, high video frame rate, high bit rate, and usage of the full width of the sensor all create a lot of heat. In order to combat this, the company used a magnesium alloy body to help dissipate internally generated heat, along with an “overheat control” function for reducing any heat generation while the camera is in standby mode. In addition to these features, the company also clarified that they decided not to install a fan in the R5 because it would have increased its size and weight and compromised its weather resistance.
